The Dynamics of the Universe is a Key Profile Area (KPA) of the University of Cologne since 2025. KPAs are thematically defined research areas of high scientific and/or societal relevance.
Who are we?
The participating institutions belong to the University of Cologne: the Department of Physics and the Department of Mathematics / Computer Science. More information, as well as the full list of participating persons and institutes can be found here.
Within the scope of the KPA are the CRC1601, and the newly funded Cluster of Excellence Dynaverse.
The Center for Data and Simulation Science (CDS) and the Computing Center (RRZK) provide capacities for data analysis and simulations.
What are we doing?
The UoC's KPA funding is intended to expand interdisciplinary collaboration in research, develop innovative teaching concepts, support approaches to sustainability, and enable outreach activities.
The Dynamics of the Universe KPA aims to use an interdisciplinary approach to foster close connections between different areas of physics as well as computer science and mathematics. This ethos will make it possible to drive advancements across a variety of science topics by developing new methods.
Through collaboration with the Center for Teacher Education at UoC, we will innovate and improve our teaching both internally and within the Bonn-Cologne Graduate School (BCGS) to ensure our programmes equip students with world-class knowledge and skills in cutting-edge topics.
